The Rt Rev Henry Scriven, a former Suffragan Bishop in the Diocese of Europe, has been appointed to a major new mission post as part of plans to integrate SAMS (the South American Mission Society) and CMS (Church Mission Society).

He takes up the new post on 1 January 2009. Subject to final negotiations and decisions by their respective governing bodies, SAMS and CMS begin the process of integration from that time.

Bishop Scriven will ultimately become Mission Director for South America in the integrated SAMS-CMS. Should the integration not go forward, he will be chief executive of SAMS.

For the past six years he has been Assisting Bishop of Pittsburgh (USA). He has a long history of mission involvement including service with SAMS in Argentina and chaplain to the British Embassy in Madrid.
